The Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State has issued restriction of movement in the Okitipupa township between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am following cult clashes which resulted to lost of lives.
Mr Akinrinwa Igbekele, Chairman, Okitipupa LGA told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Okitipupa that the restriction which has began was to quell cult clashes and would be relaxed until peace was restored.
No fewer than three persons was repotedly killed over cult clashes allegedly between the Black Axe and Eiye fraternity which began last week in the town.
Akinrinwa said that series meetings has been held with stakeholders like traditional rulers, security agencies, political office holders and youth leaders on order to restore peace to the town.
He warned youths against formenting trouble in the town under the guise of cultism saying that the security agencies are on top of the situation to arrest anyone who further distrupt the peace of residents.
“We are on top of the situation as security agencies are on the prowl to arrest and prosecute anyone formenting trouble under any guise.
“Its not a curfew perse but restriction between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am to stop tbe worrisome cult activities and will be relaxed until peace is retored back to the town.
“We warn youths in their own interest to be law abiding and shun all forms of activities that will jeopadise the peace of residents and will not bring any good thing to Okitipupa council,” Igbekele said.
He, however, urged parents to be watchful and caution their children and wards against illegal association which could bring them into disrepute.
Meanwhile, DSP Funmilayo Odunlami, the Spokesperson of Ondo State Police Command has earlier confirmed to NAN that the Police has deployed it’s Anti-Cultism patrol team to Okitipupa to arrest any youth formenting trouble under any guise. (NAN)(www.nanews.ng)
