President Bola Tinubu has left Paris, France, for Nigeria, bringing to an end his extended stay in Europe after about a month away from the country.
The President had travelled out of Abuja on August 30 for his annual vacation, which was initially scheduled to last 21 days before his return was postponed.
Tinubu’s departure was disclosed on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, who said the President had commenced his journey back to Nigeria.
According to Onanuga, the presidential aircraft was scheduled to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos later in the day.
He explained that Tinubu opted to travel to Lagos first in order to pay tribute to the late Chief MKO Abiola, whom he identified as a key figure in Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
The President’s prolonged stay outside Nigeria had attracted attention, with opposition parties seeking clarification over the duration of his absence.
His return had earlier been delayed on at least two occasions after the initial 21-day vacation period elapsed.
The President’s expected arrival in Lagos will mark the conclusion of his extended European trip, after which he is expected to resume activities in Nigeria.
