Man allegedly shot wedding guests over loud music in Kano

A wedding celebration in Kano State reportedly turned tragic after a 34-year-old man, Rabiu Mukthar, allegedly opened fire on guests over the noise from music being played at the event.

One person was killed while three others sustained injuries in the incident, which occurred in the Tudun Yola Quarters area of the state.

The Kano State Police Command spokesman, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect allegedly came out of his residence and fired repeatedly at the gathering.

Kiyawa said Mukthar used a pump-action firearm to shoot at the wedding guests before the police arrived at the scene following a distress call

He said the suspect was arrested alongside another person in connection with the incident, while the firearm allegedly used in the attack was recovered.

According to the police, the suspect told investigators that the organisers of the wedding did not seek his consent before holding the event and that the loud music had disrupted his sleep.

He reportedly admitted opening fire because he was angered by the noise, according to the police.

Mukthar and the other suspect are currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Kano State Police Command as investigation into the incident continues.
