Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have intercepted a truck conveying a large cache of military camouflage uniforms and substances suspected to be illicit drugs, leading to the arrest of three suspects.
Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, disclosed that the operation was carried out by detectives attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit following credible intelligence.
According to him, the operatives intercepted an unregistered MAN diesel truck loaded with 47 sacks containing military uniforms and 80 cartons of substances believed to be prohibited drugs.
The suspects, identified as Chinedu David, 29, Ezeagwu Chukwuma, 38, and Ifeanyi Ogbeanyi, 45, were apprehended during the operation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the consignment was allegedly being transported out of Lagos and destined for the South-East.
Police authorities said efforts are underway to trace the source of the items, identify their intended recipients and apprehend other members of the syndicate.
CP Tijani noted that the illegal circulation of military uniforms poses a serious security threat, especially amid concerns over criminals disguising themselves as security personnel to perpetrate crimes.
He assured residents that the command remains committed to combating organised crime and preventing the proliferation of military accoutrements and illicit drugs, while investigations into the case continue.
