Breaking: Morocco defeat Nigeria 4-2 on penalties to book AFCON final

Hosts Morocco on Wednesday night defeated Nigeria 4-2 on penalty shoot out in semi-final to book AFCON 2025 final place.

Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemachi missed for the Eagles, while the Atlas Lions converted four of their kicks.

Morocco will face Senegal at the AFCON final slot while Nigeria will take on Egypt in the third-place playoff.

Nigeria battled away for 120 minutes and earned themselves a penalty shootout, but it is Morocco who prevail in front of their own fans.

The Moroccan players looked a lot more comfortable from 12 yards than their opponents, possibly owing to the support from the stands.

Nigeria failed to create enough chances to score and failed to capitalize on the few ones they had.

At the end of 90 minutes, there were no goals, as both teams struggled to find the back of the net.

There was also no goals at the end of 120 minutes and the second finalist had to be decided via penalties.
