The Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai-Abubakar, has tendered his resignation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He was first appointed in 2018 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, who extended his stay in office in December 2021.
A reliable State House source confided: “DG, NIA, Rufai Abubakar tenders resignation to President Tinubu.”
Until the time of filling this report, neither reasons behind Rufai-Abubakar’s resignation was unknown nor the presidency make any statement in this regard.
He attended Bayero University in Kano, where he bagged bachelor’s and master’s degrees in French. He also speaks English and Arabic.
Rufai-Abubakar, a 71-year-old retired career foreign service officer from Katsina State, was appointed head of the agency by former President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2018, his tenure extended in 2021.
