A Professor of Industrial and Organisational Psychology at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Prof. Benjamin Omolayo on Thursday urged employers to create conducive workplace for employees.
Prof. Omolayo gave the advice while delivering the 15th Inaugural lecture of the university titled “The Indelible Shadow at Workplace” held in Oye-Ekiti.
He explained that a bad or good attitude of employers can change employee’s thoughts and their behaviour to their duties in the organisation.
Omolayo urged employers and managers of workplace to seek people with a positive work attitude.
The professor of industrial and organisational psychology said employers should encourages two way communication whereby employees can participate and contribute to discussion that can affect the organisation positively.
” Workplace should be conducive for employees to discharge their duties unhindered.
” Adequate and well equipped offices and the availability of state of art infrastructures should be put in place at workplace.
” It is always better for employers to supervise their employees instead of controlling them.
” Employees are human beings that need to be respected and they should be allowed to participate in periodic training and development programmes towards acquiring new skills that are relevant to the organisation’s development”, he said.
Prof. Omolayo said employees positive work attitude are not difficult to know because of the traits they demonstrate at work.
He added that these traits are the indelible shadow that follows such employees at the workplace.
Omolayo said the traits includes, resilience, optimism, confidence, innovation and creativity.
He said employees with positive traits in organisations need to have a clearly defined work attitude that was beneficial to their job , beneficial to themselves, beneficial to other co-workers and beneficial to the organisation. (NAN)
