Ondo State Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa has said that the state government is committed to end the ocean surge ravaging Ayetoro community in Ilaje Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
Aiyedatiwa gave this assurance on Friday in Ayetoro when he led the state committee members saddled with the responsibility of looking into the Ayetoro sea incursion and other affected areas in the riverine communities in Ilaje LGA.
During the visit, the deputy governor said that he and his team would dissect the ocean surge, make recommendations on how to halt the destruction and work out a comprehensive solution to the menace.
Aiyedatiwa further assured that the state through the committee and its relevant agencies are looking critically at finding a lasting solution to the surge.
According to him, we are here to resolve the environmental challenges faced by the people, because the state is committed to fighting the ocean surge and other environmental crisis around the area.
“Danger posed by the ocean surge is real and everyone must join hands to address it, all of us have seen that it is something we need to unite and work together to fight”, he said.
Aiyedatiwa who was the chairman of the committee set up by the state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was accompanied by other committee members including, Commissioner of Finance, Mr. Wale Akinterinwa, Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Amidu Takuro and Commissioner of Mineral Resources, Mines and Energy, Mr. Rasaq Obe.
Others are: Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Emmanuel Igbasan, Commissioner of Environment, Mr. Sunday Akinwalire, Special Adviser to Governor on Entrepreneurship, Dr. Sunny Smart-Francis and Special Adviser to Governor on Environment, Mr. Oyeniyi Oseni among others.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ocean surge has been ravaging the community since 2017 as many residents have been displaced from their houses and affected their fishing business. (NAN)
