Ondo State medical doctors under the aegis of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) triking medical doctors in Ondo State have suspended their 11 weeks strike.
The State Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr Stella Adegbehingbe made the revelation at an interactive session with medical practitioners which was organised by the House Committee on Health at the Assembly Complex on Wednesday in Akure.
Recall that on June 11 medical doctors employed by the Ondo State government embarked on a two week warning strike for better working conditions.
The effect of the strike on the health system worsened following the announcement by the NARD to also go on strike.
The industrial action which was happening amid fresh wave of coronavirus pandemic and raging cholera spells the need for concerned authorities to proffer lasting solutions to the requests made by the striking doctors.
This perhaps informed the interactive session between the House Committee on Health and the representatives of medical practitioners in the state.
The Chairman, House Committee on Health, Dr Abiodun Faleye appealed to the striking doctors to priotise the health of residents and call off their strike in earnest.
Dr Stella Adegbehingbe opined that the appeal should be directed to the state government to pay their salaries, adding that they have suspended their strike.
The General Secretary of NARD, Dr John Mattew revealed that the association has also called off its strike but awaiting the official announcement from its national body.
The House Committee on Health and the striking doctors however resolved that the doctors go back to work while the state government look into the payment of their salaries and other emoluments.
