An Oredo Magistrates ’ Court in Benin , Edo State, on Friday sentenced a 51 -year -old man, Ikidi Innocent, to three months ’ imprisonment for using an expired Union Bank ATM card to buy drinks and fried meat .
Ikidi, who committed the offence on June 27 , 2019 , was said to have bought the items from one Blessing John and Dorothy Amaka .
He was arraigned on three counts of obtaining under false pretences .
Police Prosecutor , ASP Patrick Agbonifo, had informed the court that the convict bought fried meat worth N 1, 500 , beer worth N 9 ,000 , Origin bitters worth N 300, and other alcoholic drinks worth N 3, 430 .
Agbonifo said, “ The offences are punishable under sections 516, 421 and 419 of the Criminal Code , Cap 48 , Vol. ii , Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria now applicable in Edo State .”
He pleaded guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate , Ivie Akhere , sentenced him to three months ’ imprisonment without an option of fine .
Meanwhile, another 28 -year old man, Desmond Onovaibirhi , has been arraigned before the same magistrates ’ court for stealing the sum of N 157 ,700 .
Desmond allegedly conspired with one Elisabeth Augustine to steal the money from a new generation bank on January 12 , 2019 .
Police Prosecutor , ASP Agbonifo, informed the court that the money belonged to one Loveth Tijani .
The suspect was arraigned on two counts of stealing and conspiracy .
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail in the sum of N 50 , 000 with a surety in the like sum .
The case was adjourned till September 9 , 2019 for hearing .
