There comes a time in every political journey when the people must look beyond party colours and ask themselves a simple question: Who can truly represent us? For Ondo South, that time is here.
Hon. Mathew Oye Oyerinmade, popularly known as MATO, is a name that is steadily resonating across the grassroots. He is not a stranger to the people. He understands the people, speaks their language and appreciates the culture, values and aspirations of his Yoruba people and more importantly, he understands that leadership is about relationships not just during elections, but every day.
MATO represents the kind of politician who believes that the grassroots must remain the foundation of leadership. The people should not be remembered only when votes are needed. They deserve a representative who will continue to pick their calls, listen to their concerns, visit them, consult with them and carry their voices to Abuja.
Yes, MATO is contesting on the *platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) , but the real issue before Ondo South is bigger than party colours. A political party provides the platform; it is the person elected who must use the platform to serve the people. What Ondo South needs is a senator who will make the office meaningful, accessible and productive.
MATO’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, also demonstrates that political choices can be separated when necessary. A person can support President Tinubu for the presidency and still choose MATO for the Senate. These are two different responsibilities. While the President leads the country, the senator’s primary responsibility is to ensure that the interests of Ondo South are strongly represented in the National Assembly.
MATO is intelligently sound but beyond this, human relations matter greatly. A senator cannot achieve everything alone. He must be able to build relationships, consult, persuade and work with the Senate leadership, fellow senators, ministers, government agencies and other important stakeholders.
MATO’s strength in human relations can become a powerful tool for Ondo South. It is not enough to sit in the Red Chamber; our representative must know how to knock on the right doors, present the needs of the people and persuade those in positions of authority to act. Ondo South deserves a senator who will not only win the seat, but make the seat work for the people.
