African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has said that Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) offered to pray for him during a private meeting after the service on Sunday at the Ebute Metta, headquarters, Lagos State.
He also said that members of the RCCG, erupted in joy when he was introduced to the congregation during Sunday’s National Thanksgiving Service at the church’s headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.
Sowore disclosed this in posts on his X handle on Sunday, recounting his visit to the church.
In an afternoon post, he wrote, “The Church of God is ready for the revolution!
“We received a warm and enthusiastic reception today at the RCCG headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, after I was introduced to the congregation.
“The message of hope, revolutionary justice, and national renewal continues to resonate everywhere”
According to a report by Church Times published on Sunday, Sowore attended the service on invitation alongside the AAC National Chairman, Pastor Samuel Ajeigbe.
Sowore said he later had a private meeting with Adeboye.
He said, “After the service, I had a private meeting and conversation with the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, who offered to pray for me.
“He stated that he follows my activities religiously, expressed certainty that my path is honorable, and said he is confident of my triumph.”
Sowore said his meeting with Adeboye was the second time they had met at the same venue, recalling that their first encounter was in 1996.
He said, “Our first meeting was in 1996, shortly after I completed my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). And met him while mobilizing the unlicensed Against Deadly Campus Cultism and The Free Reigns of Cult Gangs.
“Thirty years later, we met again at the same place. I deeply appreciate the warm reception of members of the church, and our private conversation, and his prayers. It is important to state that my visit was not intended to promote a political agenda.”
Later on Sunday night, Sowore criticised supporters of Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, over their reported reaction to his visit to the RCCG.
He wrote “Those @PeterObi #Obidients have been weeping all day. Did they not get the memo that times have changed?
“They have crassly complained about our one-million-revolutionaries march in Lagos yesterday and today’s visit to the RCCG.
“The people know the real opposition party, the AAC and they know Omoyele Sowore as the candidate who has consistently challenged the status quo.
“The fact that they found us today in a church, of all places, and immediately lost their minds tells you everything about how unsettled they are.
“But the clearest message came from the contrast in today’s reception at the RCCG.
“When Lagos APC Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, were called, the response was cold and restrained.
“When I was called, the revolutionary members of the church erupted in joy. The difference could not have been more obvious: the APC officials received polite acknowledgment, while the AAC received genuine excitement.
“The message is reaching everywhere. #AAC #Sowore2027 #TakeItBack.”
Times reported that the visit also drew mixed reactions from social media users.
An X user, Clean Tech Believer, wrote, “It is important to state that your visit was not intended to promote a political agenda.”
“I hope you extend the same grace to other politicians who visit churches if I judge you by the same standard you judge other politicians.
“For the past four years, you never attended any church, until 3 months to election”. We all know what we are doing by the way.”
Another commentator, Richard Kumle, praised the visit, writing, “It Is good to know that Sowore goes to church. It made me love him the more. You are my person’
Church Times further reported that Sowore had previously shared that he was a member of the Deeper Life Campus Fellowship during his first two years at the University of Lagos.
