The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a man identified as Tosin, whose body was recovered from a river days after he reportedly went missing in the Ijede area of Ikorodu.
A police source said the deceased was allegedly accosted by suspected hoodlums while away from the event.
The assailants were said to have dispossessed him of valuables, including gold chains and mobile phones, before he was allegedly killed.
His remains were subsequently discovered floating in a river around Agura on Sept. 18 and were taken to a morgue, according to the police source.
Following the recovery of the corpse, security operatives reportedly carried out a raid in the area the next day, resulting in the arrest of some suspects who were taken into custody for questioning.
A police source said investigators were working to establish what led to the victim’s death and identify all those who may have participated in the incident.
The source said, “The arrested suspects were taken into custody for questioning. The police have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Tosin’s death and the identities of those behind the alleged killing.”
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said the matter was initially treated as a missing-person case before the discovery of the corpse.
She said, “The case as of Septt 15, was that of a missing person which was transferred to the SCID. But by Sept.18, a corpse which was identified to be his was found floating. The case is being investigated at the SCID.”
The command said investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and apprehend any other persons linked to the incident.
