A former member of the House of Representatives, Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, has given the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) a 14-day ultimatum to reopen and prosecute the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, over alleged financial crimes.
Agbonayinma made the demand through his lawyer, Hannibal Uwaifo of Sagitarian Law Firm.
In a letter dated August 27 and received by the EFCC on Sept. 1, the lawyer reportedly based the request on an earlier investigation by the anti-graft agency and allegations concerning Atiku’s activities while he served as Vice-President between 1999 and 2007.
The former lawmaker is demanding that the commission revisit the matter and take appropriate legal action if its investigations establish wrongdoing.
The development comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Atiku emerging as a major opposition figure in the unfolding political realignment.
The allegations remain claims, and no conviction against Atiku has been established in connection with the matter based on the information contained in the report.
