2 Amotekun corps killed as criminals ambush operatives in Ondo

Two officers of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, have been killed in an ambush by suspected criminal elements in Akure North Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred on August 11, when the operatives were attacked shortly after leaving their base around the Ago-Oyinbo farming area, Ala Daadaa axis.

According to the Corps, the attackers opened fire on the officers, triggering a fierce gun battle. Despite the resistance put up by the operatives, two officers were killed while another sustained serious injuries.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Friday, the Amotekun spokesperson, S.A. Jimoh, said the command immediately deployed reinforcements to the area following the attack.

Jimoh said the Corps had intensified patrols, intelligence gathering and other security operations in the affected community as part of efforts to apprehend those behind the attack and prevent a recurrence.

The Corps commiserated with the families and colleagues of the slain officers, describing the deceased as gallant operatives who paid the ultimate price in the service of the state.

The families of the deceased reportedly appreciated the Ondo State Government and Amotekun management for making arrangements for their burial, while appealing for consideration of their relatives in future recruitment into the Corps and other benefits available to them.

Amotekun urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist security agencies in tracking the perpetrators, assuring that the Corps, in collaboration with other security agencies, would continue the hunt for those responsible
