A former Senator who represented Ondo South Senatorial District at the 9th Assembly, Sen. Nicholas Tofowomo, has congratulated Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun State over his victory at the just concluded governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Olalekan-Ogunwole on Sunday declared Adeleke of Accord Party, as winner of the keenly contested Saturday’s election.
He said that Adeleke garnered a total votes of 511,067 to defeat his closest opponent, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji who scored 44,815 while Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was at distant third with 17,180 votes.
Tofowomo, a former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, in a statement on Sunday in Okitipupa, described Adeleke s victory as a victory for good governance, popularity and show of love by the good people of Osun State.
Tofowomo, who is also the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate forr Ondo South Senatorial race in the 20207 general election, said the outcome of the election was a reflection of the will of the people and the confidence they reposed in Adeleke’s leadership.
He urged Adeleke to use the renewed mandate to further unite the people of Osun State and consolidate on the gains of his administration, while assuring the people of continued commitment to good governance and development.
“I congratulate Adeleke on securing the confidence of the electorates for another term. This victory is a significant political achievement, particularly given the highly competitive nature of the election, and it is a clear indication of the confidence the Osun people have reposed in his leadership.
“The people of Osun State ,have spoken through their votes, and I urge the governor to see this renewed mandate as a greater call to service, responsibility and inclusive governance. I
“I am hopeful that his second term will bring even greater development, economic opportunities, improved infrastructure and better welfare for the people of Osun State.” he said.
Tofowomo, however, commended the people of Osun State for their participation in the democratic process, noting that the peaceful expression of their choice through the ballot remained an important pillar of democracy.
It would be recalled that Adeleke served his first term as governor of Osun State under the platform of PDP but later crossed to Accord Party to contest his second term bid. (NAN)
