Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, Vice Chancellor (VC), Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, has been elected Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society (FRMetS), United Kingdom (UK).
Mr Paul Adeagbo, the institution’s Director of Information, Protocol and Public Relations, in a statement on Friday in Okitipupa, said the award was in recognition of Ologunorisa’s contribution to Metrology and Climate Science.
Adeagbo said the honour was formally conveyed in a letter dated July 16, signed by Prof. Liz Bentley, the Chief Executive of the Royal Meteorological Society.
According to him, the letter said the award, which becomes effective July 13, entitles Ologunorisa to use the post-nominal FRMetS to continue promoting excellence in meteorological science and its practical applications.
“The Royal Meteorological Society, founded in 1850, is one of the world’s leading professional bodies dedicated to weather, climate and atmospheric sciences.
“Fellowship is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the advancement of the field.
“The recognition came shortly after Ologunorisa delivered a keynote address at the inauguration of the National Executive Council (NEC), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Abuja.
“Ologunorisa highlighted OAUSTECH’s progress in marine and coastal studies.
“He also spoke on strategies for developing Nigeria’s blue economy as a distinguished guest speaker in Aret Adams Professorial Chair lecture series in the Department of Geology, University of Ibadan,” Adeagbo said.
Also, Prof. Oludotun Oluwajana, Dean, School of Environmental and Earth Sciences, OAUSTECH, described the fellowship as a significant international recognition of the VC’s academic accomplishments and leadership.
He said Ologunorisa’s expertise in disaster and risk management, climate change, and coastal defence technology aligned with the society’s global mandate to advance weather and climate science for societal benefit.
“The honour will further strengthen the university’s research drive in the blue economy, particularly in areas such as climate, energy, governance and security,
“With this election, Ologunorisa now holds fellowships of leading academies in the social sciences, hydrological sciences, and meteorological sciences in both Nigeria and UK.” Oluwajana said.
