Just In: Akpabio declares Ondo South seat vacant, orders bye election in 30 days

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday declared the Ondo South Senatorial District seat vacant following the exit of Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim.

Akpabio announced the development during plenary, explaining that the vacancy arose from Ibrahim’s recent appointment as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

The Senate President subsequently called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organise a bye-election within 30 days to fill the vacant seat, in accordance with relevant electoral laws.

He also directed the Clerk to the National Assembly to formally communicate the Senate’s resolution to INEC for immediate implementation.
