Ikale group kick against imposition of candidate in Ondo South

A group known as Concerned Ikale Indigenes (CII) has raised alarm over an alleged attempt to impose a political aspirant on the Ondo South Senatorial District ahead of upcoming party primaries and general elections.

In a press statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Mayowa Olaniyi and issued on Tuesday, the group accused a non-indigene, said to be working closely with Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, of using his influence to promote a candidate who reportedly lacks grassroots support within the Ikale axis.

The group described the development as an affront to the political integrity and tradition of the people of Ondo South, stressing that the district is capable of determining its own leadership without external interference.

According to the statement, allowing such alleged imposition could undermine democratic processes and trigger unnecessary tension in the region.

CII further described the move as “insulting and unacceptable,” warning that any attempt to sideline credible local aspirants in favour of what it termed a “stranger” would be strongly resisted.

The group noted that imposition of candidates has historically resulted in political instability and disunity, adding that Ondo South should not be subjected to avoidable crises.

It called for a transparent, fair, and people-driven process in the emergence of political leaders, insisting that leadership must reflect the genuine aspirations of the electorate rather than the influence of a few individuals.

The group also appealed to Governor Aiyedatiwa to intervene by cautioning his associates against interfering in the political affairs of the district.

While expressing confidence in the governor’s commitment to fairness and justice, the group warned that silence over the matter could be misinterpreted and erode public trust.

Concerned Ikale Indigenes urged stakeholders, including party leaders and traditional institutions, to remain vigilant and safeguard the democratic process.

The statement, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to protecting the political future of Ondo South, pledging peaceful and lawful resistance against any form of imposition.
