Tinubu ‘ll resolve all generational grievances – Jimoh lbrahim tells United Nations

Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim, has said President Bola Tinubu is determined to address the root causes of insecurity by resolving long-standing grievances across the country.

Ibrahim stated this in New York during the presentation of his letter of credence to the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres.

He said the Tinubu administration recognises that insecurity in Nigeria is deeply connected to unresolved historical, social and economic grievances, which have persisted across generations.

According to him, the President is pursuing deliberate policies aimed at addressing these underlying issues as part of a broader strategy to achieve lasting peace and stability.

“Insecurity is often driven by generational grievances. The government is committed to resolving these challenges in a sustainable manner,” he said.

The envoy noted that Nigeria’s approach goes beyond military responses, focusing instead on inclusive governance, economic reforms and social interventions designed to reduce tensions and restore trust among communities.

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to regional stability in West Africa, stressing that peace within the sub-region remains critical to global security.

Ibrahim also highlighted ongoing economic reforms under the current administration, including the removal of fuel subsidy, unification of foreign exchange rates and stricter monetary policies.

He acknowledged that the measures had posed initial difficulties but said they were necessary steps toward stabilising the economy and addressing structural imbalances that contribute to social unrest.

The envoy added that investments in infrastructure, particularly in the power and road sectors, were part of efforts to stimulate growth, create jobs and reduce poverty.

He further assured the international community of Nigeria’s readiness to collaborate with the United Nations in tackling global challenges, including conflict, climate change and economic inequality.

Ibrahim reiterated the country’s support for ongoing reforms within the United Nations system, including calls for greater representation of Africa in global decision-making.

He said Nigeria would continue to play an active role in promoting peace and stability both within its borders and on the international stage.
