A newly constructed bus terminal linked to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under Nyesom Wike has suffered serious structural damage after a heavy rainstorm in Abuja, triggering public outrage and renewed scrutiny over the quality of public infrastructure in the capital.
This development was reported on Wednesday after the Kugbo Bus Terminal along the Nyanya–Keffi Expressway was hit by strong winds and rain, leaving parts of the structure badly damaged and causing major traffic disruption.
According to eyewitness reports and follow-up confirmations, sections of the terminal’s roof were torn apart and debris spilled onto the highway, worsening gridlock along one of Abuja’s busiest transport corridors.
Official statements indicated that the incident was caused by a windstorm during heavy rainfall, and preliminary reports said no fatalities were recorded.
The FCTA also confirmed that nearby infrastructure, including the Nyanya pedestrian bridge, sustained minor damage.
Nigerians are increasingly losing patience with expensive public projects that fail too quickly under ordinary pressure. Whether this was a weather event or a construction failure, the optics are terrible.
A government cannot preach urban renewal while citizens watch new structures unravel after one major storm, what collapsed here was not just roofing; it was public confidence.
