Federal civil servants across the country have raised concerns over unexplained deductions in their March 2026 salaries, calling for urgent clarification from relevant authorities.
Findings indicate that the deductions affected workers in several ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), with many reporting that their earnings were lower than expected despite the absence of prior notice or official communication.
Some affected employees, who spoke anonymously, described the situation as disturbing, especially amid the current economic challenges and rising cost of living.
A senior federal worker in Abuja lamented the lack of explanation, noting that no circular or memo was issued before the deductions were made.
Another official stressed that beyond the amounts involved, the silence surrounding the deductions has heightened concerns among workers, insisting that employees deserve transparency regarding any changes to their salaries.
The Federal Workers Forum has condemned the development, describing it as a breach of due process and trust.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Forum urged the Federal Government, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, and relevant payroll authorities to investigate the discrepancies and provide a detailed explanation.
It warned that failure to address the issue promptly could erode confidence in the payroll system and trigger discontent within the civil service.
Efforts to obtain reactions from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) and the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, affected workers have called for immediate corrective measures to prevent a recurrence, noting that persistent irregularities could negatively impact morale and productivity in the public sector.
