The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the successful rescue of five passengers abducted by armed robbers along the Ondo-Akure Road in the early hours of Thursday.
According to DSP Jimoh Abayomi, the command’s spokesman, The incident, which occurred at about 5:20 a.m. between Ita-Oba and Oboto, involved a commercial vehicle travelling from Ondo to Akure.
“The vehicle was reportedly intercepted by armed men who forced the passengers into a nearby bush and dispossessed them of their belongings
“The victims were identified as Sunday Omodele, 63; Osedimilehin Peter, 29; Osedimilehin Ifeoluwa, 18; Osedimilehin Florence, 56; and Ademola Regina,” he said.
Police operatives, in collaboration with personnel of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, responded swiftly to a distress call and launched a targeted operation that led to the safe rescue of all five victims without injuries.
The Command also confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the crime.
The suspects Akinyemi Olamilekan, Mutaka Ali, and Atiku Abubakar are currently in custody and have provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
They are expected to be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Police Command said it has intensified surveillance, routine patrols, and intelligence-driven operations along major highways and within its jurisdiction to curb criminal activities.
