Tension gripped Akure, Ondo’ State capital on Tuesday as chaos erupted at the All Progressives Congress (APC), state Secretariat when suspected armed thugs disrupted a stakeholders’ meeting.
The incident reportedly sent party members scampering for safety, while some leaders sustained injuries during the commotion, others managed to escape unhurt bringing the meeting to an abrupt end.
Sources disclosed that party chieftains and officials had gathered at the secretariat for what was described as a routine stakeholders’ meeting when the violence broke out.
Eyewitnesses said a group of young men, allegedly armed with sticks, machetes and other crude weapons, stormed the premises without warning, shouting threats and causing panic among attendees.
Eyewitness also said that the state APC Chairman, Ade Adetimehin was beaten by the armed thugs
Efforts to reach party officials for comments were unsuccessful, as calls placed to them were not answered as of the time of filing this report, the motive behind the attack remained unclear.
