Prof. Bamidele Adebisi, a university don, has urged researchers to collaborate with industries in finding solutions to the myriad societal challenges across various sectors.
Adebisi of the Department of Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Manchester University, United Kingdom, said this while delivering the Open Lecture of the Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun.
The lecture was entitled: “Happen To Your World! Academic Entrepreneurship: Translating Research Excellence into Real World Outcomes.”
The don said that such collaboration was necessary to translate research into prosperity.
He identified purpose, people, place and partnership as factors to sustain societal value through adoption and continuous learning.
“For research excellence to transform into real world outcomes, it must be of high quality and add value to the society,” Adebisi said.
He also urged youths to be disciplined and innovative in order to position themselves for global relevance.
“Envisage problem ahead through your skills and proffer solutions to them,” he said.
According to him, youths that are disciplined and focused turn out to be well-organised and structured in the future.
Adebisi urged them to manage their time effectively to achieve their goals and acquire the skills necessary to succeed professionally and in any endeavours they pursue.
The don emphasised that purpose should go beyond plans on paper, stressing that resources such as time and money must be properly prioritised to achieve it.
He also urged youths to take responsibility for their actions and decisions, warning against shifting accountability onto others. (NAN).
