Odu2026: Ondo South must not look back

History is unforgiving to societies that refuse to learn from their own experience. For Ondo South, the cost of political amnesia is simply too high to contemplate.

Having endured years of neglect and infrastructural abandonment, the district cannot afford to slide back into the hands of regressive politics that once consigned it to the margins of relevance. This moment demands vigilance, clarity of purpose, and an unambiguous commitment to continuity.

Comparisons may sometimes be needless, but memory is indispensable. Ondo South has paid dearly for seasons of political misadventure, when governance drifted and development stalled. To return to that era, or to entrust the future to tendencies that once pushed the district into a sea of infrastructural obscurity, would amount to a collective act of self-sabotage.

Credit must be given where it is due. The renewed visibility and relevance of Ondo South did not occur by chance. It was driven by purposeful and assertive representation under Distinguished Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, CFR, PhD and his predecessors.

His tenure disrupted the lethargic agenda of retrogressive politics and rescued the district from the claws of stagnation. Under his watch, Ondo South found renewed confidence, national relevance, and a clearer development trajectory.

Now, as he prepares to transition from the national scene to global service following his ambassadorial confirmation, the challenge before Ondo South is neither sentimental nor symbolic. It is strategic. Progress must be consolidated, not compromised.

The district needs leadership that understands governance, values institutional memory, and can build on an already laid foundation.

This is no moment for accidental leadership or political experimentation. History offers enough cautionary tales of societies that traded substance for spectacle. Like the biblical Esau, some would readily mortgage a collective birthright for personal and pecuniary gain. Ondo South cannot afford such a bargain.

At this defining juncture, Princess Oladunni Catherine Odu presents a compelling and credible option. As the first female Secretary to the Ondo State Government, her over three decades of public service reflect experience, competence, and measurable impact across Ondo South and beyond. Her record speaks to continuity, stability, and the capacity to sustain and expand the gains already recorded.

This is the hour of choice, not chance. Ondo South has escaped the wilderness through sacrifice, vision, and deliberate leadership; it must not be dragged back by complacency or ambition dressed as entitlement.

The future belongs to continuity anchored in experience, not to political adventurism. Egypt is behind us, the promised land beckons, and history is watching.

Ondo South must stand firm, choose wisely, and above all, must not look back.
