Breaking: Atiku reacts to son’s defection to APC

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate, has said that his son’s defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was his personal choice.

Reacting in a statement, Atiku said Abba’s defection is a personal choice.

“The decision of my son, Abba Abubakar, to join the APC is entirely personal.

“As a democrat, i do not coerce my children on matters of conscience,” he said.

It would be recalled that Abba Abubakar, the son of Atiku Abubakar, defected from the PDP to the ruling APC on Thursday, Jan. 15, pledging to work for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

He also announced the renaming of his political group, originally established in 2022 as the Atiku Haske Organisation, to the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation.

Abubakar, who is now a member of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), a party whose major goal is to prevent Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, said he is fixated on restoring good governance in Nigeria.

“What truly concerns me is the poor governance of the APC and the severe economic and social hardships it has imposed on our people,” he added.

“I remain resolute in working with like-minded patriots to restore good governance and offer Nigerians a credible alternative that brings relief, hope, and progress.” Atiku added.
