AFCON: Abdul Samad pledges $500,000, $1m bonus for Eagles semi-final, final victories

Nigerian billionaire industrialist and philanthropist, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has announced a series of financial incentives amounting to millions of dollars for the Super Eagles following their victory over Algeria at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Rabiu made the pledge in a Facebook post on Friday, Jan. 10, where he congratulated the national team for their performance and urged them on as they prepare for the semi-final stage of the competition.

According to the post, Rabiu pledged $500,000 to the players if they win their semi-final match, with an additional  $50,000 for every goal scored in the encounter.

“To encourage you, I pledge $500,000 to the players upon winning the semi-final, with an additional $50,000 for every goal scored,” he stated.

He further promised a significantly larger reward should the Super Eagles go on to win the tournament, pledging $1 million for a final victory, alongside $100,000 for each goal scored in the final.

“Should you go on to win the final, I further pledge $1,000,000, plus $100,000 for each goal scored in the final,” Rabiu added.

The business mogul concluded his message by wishing the team continued success and urging them to keep making the country proud.

“Wishing you continued success as you carry Nigeria forward. Keep making Nigeria proud,” the post read.

The Super Eagles’ victory over Algeria has reignited optimism among fans and stakeholders as the team moves closer to the final stages of the continental tournament, with growing private-sector support aimed at boosting morale and rewarding excellence.
