The maiden edition of the distribution of bursary awards of N100 million to 1000 awardees, all undergraduates across Ondo South Senatorial District by Distiguishef Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim,CFR, has held.
Presentation of bank drafts to the awardees took place on Saturday, November 15th at University of Fortune University, Igbotako.
In his goodwill remark to the 1000 undergraduates and beneficiaries of the fund, Ondo South Senator, Jimoh Ibrahim, who designated the awardees as ‘JI Scholars’ told them to see their academic pursuit as the ladder to achieve success in life.
He also noted that beyond degrees, what guarantees life success is the desire and longing to be successful. While comparing the desire for accomplishment in life to a journey embarked on by a car owner, the founder of Fortune University emphasized that without adequate fuel in the car, such traveler will get stranded on the road and can even get exposed to avoidable dangers on the highway.
He charged the students to make their plans about life success an elixir that will continue to spur them forward without getting frustrated and without losing the steam and energy to maintain balance and achieve life goals.
“Success in your academic pursuit requires a huge commitment and you must not be distracted by the side attractions which often tend to take students’mind away from achieving the best in their respective campuses ,” Senator Ibrahim said.
He noted that gaining academic ease post first degree becomes an easy walk in the park for anyone who is able to achieve a first class degree in the university, stressing that graduates with First Class can bag foreign Masters with options of support funding and scholarship awards and can further by doing a PhD after which they become a sought after academic across the world.
“You cannot have a first class and still be jobless , your choice job will attract you, but a First Class Degree can not be achieved in the ivory tower if you are bogged down by relationship matters or if you are the kind of student who is a fashionista, who is more conscious of fashion trend than your grade in exams.
“So while I advise you to concentrate on your studies , I charge you to have your eyes focused on the future where you can become a high flier and sought after academic guru; that’s the only way you can make me proud of you as JI Scholars,”;Ibrahim enthused .
Meanwhile, the Rebuja of Osooro, Oba Gbadebo Bajowa flagged off the presentation of bank drafts to the awardees as he presented the draft to an awardee from Okitipupa Local Government Area.
The monarch congratulated the students as they become JI Scholars while saluting the commitment of Sen. Ibrahim to easing the academic pursuit of the beneficiaries of the bursary fund.
The bursary award also considered in large number the concern of People Living with Disabilities (PWD’s) as many of them studying across campuses also got the bursary fund.
Sen. Ibrahim while chatting with newsmen on the fringe of the event noted that the bursary awards will be a continuos effort and more students will be considered in subsequent years.
