The National President of Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA), Mrs Kikelomo Adeniyi, said the association will empower over 1,000 women through waste recycling for wealth creation.
Adeniyi,also the wife of the Comptroller -General of Nigeria Customs Service(NCS) made this known during the Flag-Off of the First COWA Green Border Day, on Monday in Idiroko.Ogun.
She urged men to use all resources to empower women in order to make them independent and better mothers in their various houses.
According to her,COWA converged just some few weeks ago in Abuja, to launch the COWA Green Borders and Sustainability Summit.
The COWA’ national president said that the association would also plant over 5,000 trees across the borders within one year.
She explained that the summit was a a ground breaking event that brought together leaders from government, development agencies, and the private sector to discuss how we can build greener, cleaner, and more resilient border communities.
“Today, we are not just cleaning or planting trees but we are launching a movement of hope, responsibility, and transformation that connects our people, our borders, and our planet.
“Together, we can transform our borders into models of sustainability and communities where environmental stewardship, social empowerment and national service unite.”she said.
Mrs Adeniyi said that the centre was envisioned as a national facility that would serve as the hub for climate education, women’s empowerment, innovation, and sustainability research, training of thousands of women and youths across Customs community in renewable energy, recycling, and environmental entrepreneurship.
The COWA national president said that the summit ignited a new wave of partnership and possibility, adding that today’s event in Idiroko, was the first practical expression of that vision in action.
According to her,the COWA’s flagship environment and community development programme was a 12 months national campaign, clean and empower Nigeria’s border communities.
In his welcome address, Mr Godwin Otunla, Area Comptroller, Ogun 1 Area Command, Idiroko,commended the COWA national president, Mrs Adeniyi, for her visionary leadership and taking COWA beyond its traditional humanitarian mandate into areas of sustainability and ecological stewardship.
Otunla reiterated the command’s commitment to remain to fully support all the COWA programmes and initiatives that promote welfare, empowerment, and sustainable development.
The area Comptroller said that a greener border environmental was not job at beneficial to our communities, but also essential to our mission of maintaining safe and prosperous borders.(NAN)
