Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) has made a significant mark in the academic world as two of its scholars has been recognised among the world’s top two-percent scientists by Stanford University, UK in conjunction with Elsevier in their 2025 rankings.
Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, OAUSTECH’s Vice Chancellor im a statement on Monday in Okitipupa mentioned the two scholars as: Dr. Bartholomew Saanu-Adekeke and Dr. Daniel Oluwaseun-Akinyele.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the “Top Two-Percent Scientists” ranking is a prestigious annual list that recognises researchers whose scholarly works and citations have made significant global impact in their respective fields.
According to the statement, Dr. Saanu-Adeleke who make the list for the second consecutive year was ranked 134,616 globally in Plant Biology and Botany, while Dr. Oluwaseun-Akinyele ranked 84,004 in Engineering.
Ologunorisa, expressed satisfaction with the report, saying it was evident that the university was steadily gaining global recognition due to its encouragement of academic scholarship and culture of academic excellence among staff and students.
“I congratulate both of them as well as their Schools and Departments, for making the university stand tall and proud with this prestigious global recognition,
“I encourage other scholars and schools in the university to replicate this feat for their good and to enhance further development and visibility of the university.” Ologunorisa said.
Meanwhile, Saanu-Adeleke attributed his success to a combination of divine grace, self-determination, dedication, hard work, discipline, perseverance, and unwavering passion for the remarkable achievement.
He appreciated the invaluable mentorship of his academic supervisors, including Prof. Olubukola Babalola, South Africa, Prof. Bamidele Akinyele and Dr. Oladipo Olaniyi, both of the Federal University of Technology, Akure.(FUTA), and Prof. Ruth Gabriel-Ajobiewe of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).
“I also thank my parents, late Pa. Julius Adeleke Ajayi and Madam Veronica Ifefaola Ajayi for the good upbringing, as well as Prof. Ologunorisa, for his continuous inspiration as well as university management, colleagues, friends, and my students for their support and encouragement,” Saanu-Adeleke said.
Similarly, Dr. Oluwaseun-Akinyele expressed happiness at the honour, stating that it was gratifying to see his work acknowledged among the top two percent scientists globally.
He attributed his success to passion, persistence, dedication, resilience, and collaboration in advancing scientific research.
He gave thanks to God Almighty for the grace and appreciated Prof. Ologunorisa, for his continual support. He also lauded his mentors, colleagues, friends, students, and family for their prayers and encouragement.
“The university management should continue to foster an enabling environment that supports quality research. Its ability to sustain such an atmosphere will position OAUSTECH as one of the leading science and technology institutions in Nigeria, Africa, and beyond,” he said. (NAN)
