Don urges universities on impactful research for international ranking

The Vice-Chancellor of Bells University, Ota, Prof.Jeremiah Ojediran, has advised the private and public universities to engage on impactful research to improve their international ranking.

Ojediran made the call during the Press Conference in heralding its 17th Convocation and 20th Anniversary on Thursday in Ota.

The don identified lack of adequate relevant research for global uses had contributed to poor ranking of nation’s universities.

“The Nigerian universities need to involved in every area of research and do more of impactful research that are marketable globally.

”Also,our universities research should be national and international to boost international ranking.” he said.

Ojediran urged the federal government to redouble its efforts in funding impactful research that help the universities to compete with their international peers.

The VC reiterated the university ‘s commitment to continue to train graduates who are employer of labour and not job seekers.

“Our graduates are doing excellently well because the university ‘s training have entrepreneurial skills” he said.

He said that all the programmes of the university were accredited by Nigerian universities Commission (NUC).

Ojediran said that the students population grew from from about 2,300 in 2014 to 4,000 undergraduates and 700 postgraduates in 2025.

The VC added that the number of programmes offered in the university increased from 28 in 2014 to 52 across the five colleges in 2025.

Ojediran also said the Bells ranked 13th in Nigeria and 4th among private universities in the sub-Saharan Africa in 2024.

He reaffirmed the university ‘s commitment to produce graduates whose intellect matched with empathy and entrepreneurial spirit. (NAN)
