Ondo varsity retains first position in food science, technology competition

Students from the Department of Food Science and Technology, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, in Ondo State has emerged as the overall winners of a quiz competition organized by the Nigerian Association of Food Science and Technology.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Paul Adeagbo, OAUSTECH’s Director of Information, Protocol and Public Relations, which was made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Okitipupa.

The competition which held at the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, Ikole-Ekiti Campus as part of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST), Western Chapter Conference, 9th Regional Food Science and Technology (ReFoST), Ekiti 2025. Twenty universities and polytechnics participated in the event.

The statement said that in the first and second rounds, Ibukun Precious Omotola and Nathaniel Boluwatife Benjamin a 500 and 400 level students respectively represented OAUSTECH with distinction.

According to the statement, For the final stage, Omotola Ibukun Precious (500 Level) and Ashiru Mordiyyah Ayomide (300 Level) took the stage, answering all questions posed to them without a single miss.

“The OAUSTECH team was cheered on by their fellow students, including Owofolaju Oluwaseun Taiwo, National President of the Nigerian Association of Food Science and Technology Students, and Omogbeja Jessica Omoye, President of NAFSTS OAUSTECH Chapter,

“This victory marks a notable achievement for OAUSTECH, as the team retained the title, having also won the competition last year at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology ( LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.

“The win is a testament to the department’s academic excellence and commitment to food science and technology.” the statement read.

Meanwhile,Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, the institutions Vice Chancellor said that the victory was a testament to the academic excellence and commitment of our students and staff in the Department of Food Science and Technology

“We are proud of our students’ achievement and commend their dedication to food science and technology.”Ologunorisa said

Also, Prof. Funmilola Agbebi, Dean of the School of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, added that  the victory  demonstrated the quality of training and mentorship the students received

“We are committed to nurturing talent and promoting academic excellence in our students,” Agbebi noted

Moreover, Dr. Clement Ogidi, Coordinator of the Department of Food Science and Technology also note noted that the success of the students was a reflection of the department’s focus on practical and theoretical knowledge in food science and technology.

“We will continue to support and encourage our students to excel in their academic and professional pursuits,” Ogidi added.
