Dr. Cecilia Oluwamodupe, a lecturer with Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, has received Federal Government”s patent certificate for her innovative research invention in Automated Parkia Extract Production Device,
Oluwamodupe developed the device alongside Mrs Adesola Oluwaseun-Adeleye, both from the Pharmaceutical Biochemistry Research Unit, Department of Biochemistry, School of Science, OAUSTECH.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the patent certificate, dated May 26, which was signed by the Registrar, Mrs Jane Igwe, grants Oluwamodupe and her colleague exclusive rights to their invention for 20 years, starting from May 26.
The certificate reads: “For the sole use and advantage of an invention for: Automated Parkia Extract Production Device.”
Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, OAUSTECH’s Vice Chancellor made this known in a congratulatory statement he signed on Monday in Okitipupa.
He said that Oluwamidupe has raised the bar of the institution through the patient right urging other to emulate such feat.
“She have indeed raised the bar for OAUSTECH through this the highest feat and I urge others to emulate such a feat too,” Ologunorisa said.
Oluwamodupe in her reaction ascribed her success to God and the Vice-Chancellor for providing an environment conducive for research and learning, saying it was her contribution to help humanity.
“This invention took me six years to achieve. It is poised to help in the production of extracts from natural sources for nutraceutical and pharmaceutical purposes,” she said.
Meanwhile, the university community has rejoiced with Oluwamodupe’s remarkable achievement, which underscored OAUSTECH’s unwavering commitment to fostering innovation and research excellence.
They also hailed Oluwamodupe’s relentless dedication to the advancement of knowledge and innovation which serves as a profound inspiration to her colleagues and students alike, and her contributions to the university’s research and academic pursuits are truly invaluable.
Prof. Soji Fakoya, Dean of the School of Science and Chairman of the Committee of Deans and Academic Directors, commended Oluwamidupe for her tenacity of purpose and commitment to research which led to the breakthrough of the patented invention.
Prof Foluso AdetuyI, OAUSTECH’s Director of Academic Planning, maintained that Oluwamodupe was a top-notch researcher who blends theory with practice to contribute to both knowledge generation and practical applications to solve societal problems, commending her for blazing the trail.
Also, Prof. Ilemobayo Oguntimehin, Director of Research, Innovation and Development at OAUSTECH, stated that her excellent performance stems from practical experience in the laboratory and devotion to continuous learning and research.sayig he was proud to be associated with her.
Ms. Winifred Olayemi Akinwumi, OAUSTECH MSC holder who was supervised by Oluwamidupe, praised her supervisor for mentoring and supervised her to gain admission to research universities in the US and Canada.
Oluwamodupe was an esteemed academic leader, currently serving as the Acting Dean of the School of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences as well as Acting Director of OAUSTECH Leadership Academy.
Oluwamodupe’s research focused on pharmaceutical Biochemistry targeting metabolic diseases, erectile dysfunction and cancer treatment with notable achievements including: published over 40 research articles in leading international journals.
She was a recipient of prestigious international awards and grants, including Science Granting Council grant, UNESCO/DBT-TWAS, once discovered a bioactive constituent that regenerates damaged pancreatic islet cells in type 1 diabetic model mice, and recognised as the best scientist of the year 2021 by AD scientists world ranking in OAUSTECH.
