Ondo varsity presents 18,825 graduands at 35th convocation ceremony

The Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo town will present no fewer than 18,825 graduands at its 35th convocation ceremony scheduled for Friday, May 23.

Prof. Samuel Akintunde, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, AFUED, disclosed this to journalists on Monday during the pre-convocation press briefing.

The university, formerly Adeyemi College of Education was upgraded to a University status in 2023.

Prof. Akintunde revealed that six sets of students would be administered with the oath of convocation comprising 6,269 students for National Certificate Education, 11,501 students for Degree while 1,055 students for part-time respectively

According to him, This event marks another significant milestone in the history of our great institution as we celebrate the academic achievements of our graduating students and reflect on the progress of the University.

“It is noteworthy that the last Convocation ceremony was held in 2018 as a college, it is therefore gratifying to announce that this convocation is the first to be held under our new dispensation as Adeyemi Federal University of Education.” he said

He added that AFUED has consistently maintained high standards in teacher education, producing quality graduates who have distinguished themselves in the education sector and beyond.

“We are also a TETFund designated centre of excellence for applying indigenous languages in pedagogy.

“Over the years, the university has expanded its facilities including lecture halls, laboratories and hostels to provide a conducive learning environment.”

“Three outstanding Nigerians namely Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, CON, First Lary of Nigeria,,Oba (Dr) Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo CFR Jilo III, the Osemawe and Paramount ruler of Ondo Kingdom and Prof. Toyin Falola, a Professor of African studies at the University of Texas in Austin, USA will be awarded Honourary Doctorate Degree .

Prof. Akintunde said AFUED has contributed to the development of Ondo community,the state and Nigeria at large particularly in impacting the health needs of the people by giving immunisation services free of charge.Buy vitamins and supplements

He pointed out some key achievements since assuming office as Acting Vice-chancellor; we have strengthened quality assurance mechanisms to enhance teaching, learning and research output.

“The University has made significant investment in ICT infrastructure, including the upgrade of our e-learning platform to facilitate blended learning.

“We were able to secure the approval of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board for the conduct of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) after some years of hiatus.

“We have prioritised the welfare of both staff and students through improved working conditions, scholarships and support for research grants in spite of funding challenges.”

He reassured the management commitment to the vision of making AFUED a world-class institution for teacher education and research.

“We are optimistic about the future and will continue to pursue excellence in all areas of our operations.” Akintunde revealed.
