Ondo varsity swears-in new SUG executives

Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa in Ondo State on Friday in Okitipupa, sworn-in the newly elected Students Union Government (SUG) executives for the institution

The SUG executives were elected to pilot the affairs of students for 2024/2025 academic session were elected at the students election held on Feb. 5 at the institution.

Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, OAUSTECH’s Vice Challenllor, while inaugurating the SUG executives urged them to always engage in positive agitation devoid of rancour saying that there are always challenges between management and students.

He said that the management and students are partners in progress adding that progress can only be achieved in a peaceful atmosphere.

According to him, there is no way that there will not be issues and challenges between the management and students, but it have to be handled with maturity, understanding, openness and transparency at all times.

“Students can agitate, but it have to be positive and progressive ones handled with wisdom, sense of dignity and maturity.

“Gone were the days of agitation with criminality and vandalism of university’s or public properties and belongings, that is unacceptable in a sane and civilised world.

“We are partners in progress, let us work together harmoniously so that the goodwill the university has been enjoying in the last few years of our administration would be sustained for the good of all,” Ologunorisa said.

The vice chancellor, noted that the existing peaceful atmosphere and understanding in the institution in the last three years was responsible for a stable academic calendar which made students graduate and mobilized for the mandatory National Youths Service Corps (NYSC).

He also disclosed that under his watch, the institution’s population, as well as schools and faculties has increased tremendously with improved and qualitative education in a safe, serene and conducive learning environment.

Samuel Temitope-Elusoji, the newly elected SUG President In his acceptance speech, appreciated the vice-chancellor and his management team for their transparency by giving a level playing ground to all contestants in the just concluded election.

He also thanked the entire students for the confidence reposed in him, saying that he saw his victory as a tremendous challenge and call to service.

“I promise that my administration will be driven by the values of collectivism, prioritising students’ welfarism, transparency, accountability, commitment and determination to surpass the records of my predecessors,” Elusoji said

NAN also reports that other SUG executives are: Cheistianhah Ayomide Babatunde as Vice-President,  Imisioluwa Iluyemi -General Secretary, Dennis Erayetan-Ikutiminu – Assistant General Secretary and Emmanuel Ikechikukwa-Nkwocha -Treasurer

Others are: Samuel Akinlabi-Oladimeji – Public .Relations Officer, Joseph Fighosoli-Afun – Financial Secretary, Kassim Michael Olamide -Sport Director, Ayodeji Josiah-Olorunsoji – Social Director and Samson Ezechi – Welfare Director. (NAN)
