The heads of security agencies in Ondo State have reiterated their commitment and collaboration to tackle insecurity, especially kidnapping in the state.
It would be recalled that from Jan.6 till date, six people were killed as a result of cult clashes, and two people died in communal clashes.
Also, five farmers were killed by unknown gunmen and seven travelers kidnapped on Feb. 4 in the state.
Mr Wilfred Afolabi, Commissioner of Police (CP) in Ondo State, said this on Thursday in Akure while speaking to newsmen after the meeting of head of security agencies in Ondo State.
The meeting was hosted by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command.
Afolabi, who said that the police would not relent in their oath to ensure the state was free from criminality, also appealed to major stakeholders to collaborate with the security agencies.
According to him, citizens should always give vital information that will help security agencies arrest those perpetrating evil in the state.
“We are working around the clock and also reaching out to other security agencies to see how we can jointly address the menace together.
“We will continue to rely on the citizens of the state for vital information that can assist us to help crack down on this menace,” he said.
The CP also said that he had given out his dedicated mobile number to the stakeholders for prompt responses.
Afolabi appealed to the stakeholders to assist the security agencies by providing sophisticated technology and weapons like drones and tracking devices to ease their job.
“If you give me an information what is my gain to leak out the information?
“I will only appreciate it, and at the end of the day, if we succeed with information you give to us, you will equally share in the glory too.
“So, my appeal is that the people of the state should take good advantage of me sharing my dedicated line to them.
“You need to share with us good information that can lead to the arrest of these bad boys,” he said.
Also speaking with newsmen, Mr Oluyemi Ibiloye, NSCDC State Commandant, said that the meeting would help the security agencies to synergy and collaborate in order to keep the state safe.
“I must confess that the issue of kidnapping is at the front burner and we have come up with new tactics and innovations on how to deal with it.
“Though, we can not share what our plans are, I must tell you that security agencies have also procured some new gadgets to deal with issues of kidnapping in the state.
“We are turning to use of technology as one of the means, but I must tell you that the security agencies are well prepared and ready to deal with this form of insecurity,” he said.
Similarly, Mr Adetunji Adeleye, State Commander, Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun in Ondo State, said that he represented the interest the state government.
He also said that the meeting would put lasting solutions to the issue of kidnapping in the state.
“With today’s meeting, as heads of security agencies, I believe it will bring us lasting solutions to ensure these miscrants don’t come to the state capital and drive us away completely from the state.
“Moreso, all the resolutions will be taken to the executive governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
“Aiyedatiwa is somebody that loves his people and places a lot of premium on peace and tranquility,” he said
Brigadier Commander of 32 Artillery Brigade, Immigration, Customs, Air Force, DSS, NDLEA, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Correctional Services, NAFDAC, DIA and FRSC were present at the meeting.(NAN)
