The Chancellor of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun, Dr David Oyedepo, on Friday warned matriculating students against involving themselves in any form of examination malpractice.
Oyedepo gave the warning during the 23rd matriculation ceremony of the institution in Ota, Ogun.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a total of 2449 undergraduates and postgraduates across the four colleges and 31 programmes, including the open and distance e-learning platforms, matriculated for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The chancellor explained that the warning had become necessary as the institution considered examination malpractice a capital offence.
Oyedepo said that every perpetrator automatically loses his or her place in the university.
“The institution believes that it takes high-level discipline to fully deliver any given task and be accomplished in the race of life.
“However, no one ever arrives at a future that he cannot see and is prepared for,” the chancellor said.
He added that the university equipped the students in alignment with the core values of the institution, which automatically empowered them for meaningful and impactful life.
Oyedepo listed the core values of the institution to include spirituality, integrity, possibility mentality, capacity building, responsibility, diligence and sacrifice.
He stated that these were the reasons why the institution’s graduates were the most employable in the country.
The chancellor reiterated the commitment of the institution to raise a new generation of leaders through a broad-based qualitative education built on sound Biblical principles.
In his welcome address, Prof. Timothy Anake, the Vice-Chancellor, said that the institution was just not a place of learning but a transformative environment where students` potential would be nurtured.
Anake said that their dreams and character would be shaped and moulded in alignment with the core values of the institution.
“Let me remind you that at Covenant University, our commitment to a “total man” education is absolute.
“Beyond the classroom, we emphasise the holistic development of our students,” he said.
The V-C noted that the matriculants were set for the opening of a new chapter in their lives as they were admitted into the most esteemed higher education institution in Nigeria.
Anake said that the institution had emerged as a university of reference with several national and international recognitions and awards in practically all areas of its operations by God’s grace.(NAN)
