Retired Maj.-Gen. Olu Bajowa, has charged Mr Andrew Soga-Ogunsakin, the chairman-elect for Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, in just concluded LG poll, to be magnanimous in victory.
It would be recalled that Dr Joseph Aremu, Chairman, Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), on Sunday announced that All Progressives Congress (APC) cleared the 18 LGA’s chairmanship seats as well as the councillorship seats in the 203 wards across the state.
NAN also reports that 12 political parties contested in the Jan. 18 LGA poll after the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) withdrew from the poll over lost of confidence in ODIEC.
In his congratulatory message on Monday in Okitipupa, Bajowa said that Soga-Ogunsakin’s emergence as chairman-elect was at an auspicious time that heralds political administration of the third-tier of government.
The Jagunmolu of Ikaleland said that, the chairman-elect also has the full support of the much desired autonomy which President Bola Tinubu’s led administration declared its full implementation.
The Chairman, Awawa 94.1 FM radio station, Ayeka in Okitipupa, expressed delight that Okitipupa now boasts of a young man who was filled with virile energy as the council boss.
The elder statesman also said that, based on the chairman-elect political anticedents and experience, serving under various governments as Special Adviser, in different capscities gave him the confidence that he would be one of the best performing LG boss.
He stressed that, the chairman-elect should focus more on youth empowerment, care for the elderly, and should not forget gender equality policies which would stand him out as a proactive politician devoid of gender bias.
According to him, the chairman-elect should be magnanimous in victory by surrounding himself with seasoned advisers who have the imterst of Okitipupa at heart and ensure collaboration with traditional rulers in the LGA.
“Your election came at an auspicious time backed up with the power of autonomy, thereby I charged him to govern in manners that will endear him to the heart of all as a leader with impactful imprint.
“You should also run an inclusive government of transparency, accountability and accessibility that will give the people a sense of belonging to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
“I congratulate you on your emergence and pray for God’s wisdom, knowledge, understanding and guidance, as well as a successful tenure in government,” Bajowa said.
He, however, commended residents of Okitipupa for their orderliness and decorum in which they endear to exercise their franchise at the Saturday’s poll.
