Prioritize our 1b litres locally refined petrol, Dangote begs NNPCL, marketers

Billionaire businessman and industrialist Aliko Dangote has called on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and other fuel marketers to prioritize locally available petroleum products, highlighting that he has over 1 billion liters stored and ready for distribution.

Dangote emphasized the financial burden of maintaining such a large supply, urging immediate action from fuel distributors to tap into his reserves.

“I am expecting either NNPCL or the oil marketers to stop importing fuel; they should come and collect what we have,” Dangote said, signaling a critical need to reduce reliance on imported fuel amidst an increasing fuel pump price.

The plea comes in the wake of a high-level meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, where the two reportedly discussed Nigeria’s fuel distribution strategies amidst the ongoing subsidy removal policy.

With the complete removal of subsidies, petrol prices surged in recent weeks, with today’s increase reaching as high as N1,025 and N1,060 per liter at NNPCL outlets in Lagos and Abuja respectively.

The increase has stirred economic and consumer concerns nationwide, as fuel prices continue to fluctuate.

Amid rising costs and shifting supply strategies, Dangote’s call to action underscores a push toward greater reliance on local fuel production and distribution channels to stabilize prices and ensure sustainable supply
