The Federal High Court in Abuja has summoned Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, over a suit filed by Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim on the!April 20 just concluded governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State.
It would be recalled that Ibrahim who is an governirship aspirant, approached the court, seeking the nullification of the primary election.
Ibrahim, the Plaintiff had on Tuesday, described the primary election as a mega fraud, stressing that the exercise was fraught with irregularities.
The suit marked: No: FHC/ABJ/CS/588/2024 was between Sen. Ibrahim and the APC, Aiyedatiwa and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a video obtained, the applicant and his counsel were seen stepping out of the court and subsequently addressed newsmen.
“Well, as a matter of fact, today the Federal High Court has made an order for APC, Aiyedatiwa and INEC to appear in court on Tuesday May 14 in connection with the conduct of the Ondo State Governorship Primary Election, which is disputed.
“And you know, the critical thing about this case is that it deals with internal democracy of political parties, which is a major problem we have in this country. And I will hope and pray that this matter will address and resolve this issue once and for all.
“The Supreme Court has said severally that political parties must obey their own constitution and must abide by the guidelines they have set for the conduct of elections.
“Because without it, there’s no way you can guarantee democracy in a country like Nigeria. So that’s the importance of this case and that’s why we have come to court.
“And the court has also said that we should serve Ayedatiwa through the APC secretariat. So we don’t need to go to a court and be looking for the APC secretary. There will be a copy of the order,” the counsel said.
