Ondo State Government has declared Thursday, 22nd and Friday, 23rd of February as public holidays in the State.
Gov. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa said the holidays was in honour of the former Governor of the State, late Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON.
This is contained in a statement signed by Prince Ebenezer Ebenezer Adeniran, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor on Tuesday in Akure
The statement read that the two work-free days would allow the people of the state to participate in the burial activities of the former governor.
The burial activities, which started last Thursday, continue as follows:
Wednesday, Feb. 21:
Ajabue (Traditional Rites)
Owo which starts by 9 am – 4pm
Special Court Session
Court 1, Ondo State High Court Headquarters,
Hospital Road, Akure by 10:00 am
Lying in State and Commendation Service in Akure Township Stadium by 1:00 pm
Evening of Tributes at St Andrews Church, Imola Street, Owo from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm
On Thursday, Feb. 22 (Public holiday): Service of Songs at St Andrews Cathedral, Imola Street,
Owo by 4:00 pm
Wake-Keep at Maranatha Villa, Owo by 8:00 pm
Candlelight Procession and World Gyration by the Kegites Club b 8:00 pm till Dawn
On Friday, Feb. 23 (Public holiday):
Funeral Service at St. Andrews Church, Imola Street, Owo by 10:00 am
Interment follows immediately after the burial service at the burial site, Owo. (Strictly for immediate family)
Reception at Mydas Hotel and Resort, Ikare Road, Owo by 1:00 pm.
On Saturday, Feb. 24,:
Akeredolu Memorial Friendly football match at Akure Township Stadium, Akure by 3:00 pm.
On Sunday, Feb. 25:
Thanksgiving Service at St. Andrews Church, Imola Street, Owo by 10:00 am.
