The Ore Unit Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has begun enlightenment programme against indiscriminate parking of articulated and commercial vehicles on both sides of the Ore expressway.
Mrs Yetunde Adesina, the Unit Commander disclosed this on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ore, Ondo State.
Adesina said that the campaign had been taken to Ore-Benin, Ore-Ondo and Ore-Okitipupa axis of the expressway.
She said that the corps had visited relevant stakeholders involved to sensitize them on the programme.
According to her, these include, the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), the Ondo State Park Management (OSPM), and Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).
She said that parking on the sides of the road was becoming a menace in Ore and it’s environs.
“This indiscriminate parking has now turned the two-lane expressway to one lane which must be checked against crashes, ” she said..
Adesina said that the enforcement would begin after the enlightenment and urged all concerned to desist from the illegal parking on both sides of the road.
“We have started a sensitisation against illegal and indiscriminate parking of articulated and commercial vehicles on both sides of the road.
“We have met with all concerned bodies like the NUPENG, OSPM, RTEAN and other bodies to use their trailer park and garages rather than turning a two lane road to one lane.
“We are advising them in their own interests to do the needful because enforcement will begin after this enlightenment and all eering vehicles will be impounded to sanitise our roads,” Adesina said.
She, however, urged all motorists and other road users to aways ensure proper compliance with traffic rules and regulations for the highway to be safe for all. (NAN)
