The labour unions of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa in Ondo State, has directed it’s members to embark on a seven days fasting and prayer over diengagement of some of its staff members.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Temidayo Temola, Chairman, Joint Action Congress (JAC) of the institution and made available to newsnen on Thursday in Okitipupa.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the labour unions of the institution had on Wednesday protested against the disengement of no fewer than 35 sttaff members of the institution by the Prof. Akinbo Adesomoju led-Governing Council.
NAN also reports that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), National Association of Academic Technologist (NAAT), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) shut down the institution’s main gate which paradised academic and commercial activities.
“Arising from the congress held today, the staff have resolved on seven days fasting to seek the face of God concerning members of staff that were sacked by the Prof Akinbo Adesomoju led Governing Council on 20th June,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the management of the institution has said that the disengement of some of staff members by the Governing Council of the institution was being addressed.
This is contained in a press statement signed by Mr Idowu Omowole who doubles as the Acting Registrar and Secretary of the Governing Council of the institution, made available to newsmen in on Thursday in Okitipupa.
Omowole clarified that the disengagement has no ethnic, political or religious colouration, adding that the institution reiterated it’s unalloyed commitment to excellent teaching.
“OAUSTECH wishes to assure staff, students and the general public that the current disengagement of staff by the Governing Council of the University is being addressed.
“Management also wishes to inform the general public that the disengagement has no ethnic, political or religious colouration.
“Management, hereby reiterates to all stakeholders its unalloyed commitment to OAUSTECH’s mandate of excellent teaching, cutting edge research and strategic community engagement,”the statement read. (NAN).
