The Federal High Court sitting in Akure on Monday upheld the emergence of a former Deputy Governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ondo South Senatorial district ahead 2023 general elections
The court presided over by Justice R.M Aikawa, who delivered the judgement through ZOOM communication, claimed that the pre-election case instituted by the Senator representing Ondo South senatorial district, Nicholas Tofowomo, seeking the disqualification of Ajayi as the PDP candidate in the district, was filed out of time.
It was reported that the former deputy governor defeated the senator with 78 against 74 votes, at the the PDP senatorial primary in Okitipupa in May but not satisfied with the eligibility of Ajayi, Tofowomo approached the court to challenge his academic qualifications.
There are indications that the PDP Senator would challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal.
