Mr Igbekele Akinrinwa, Chairman, Okitipupa Local Government Area (LGA) of Ondo State has advised residents and security agencies to be security conscious in order to protect lives and property.
The council helmsman made the appeal while speaking with newsmen on Wednesday in Okitipupa shortly after a security parley with security agencies at LGA Secretariat.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Vilante Group (VGN) Agbekoya and Local Hunters are among the security agencies at the parley.
Akinrinwa noted that the parley was necessary in view of the security challenges ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery and other vices bedvilling the state and the country at large.
According to him, we need to engage in proactive measures to beef up security within and outside the council in a bid to protect lives and property of residents.
“Our security agencies are trying their best with best security practices and intelligent reports to ensure tight security, but they need to do more.
“Residents too have been doing their best in reporting criminal activities to appropriate quarters but they need to do more by being security concious to alert security agencies to do the needful.
“Security is everybody’s business and we need collaborative efforts to fight against insecurity in our council,” he said.
He, however, urged youths in the council to channel their energies to legal businesses adding that it would not be business as usual for anyone indulging in criminal activities.
He also warned criminals that the council would not be a safe haven for them as security agencies has engaged in modern security architecture and strategies to combat crimes and arrest criminals. (NAN)
