The Brotherhood of the Cross and Star (BCS) has urged politicians to shun violence and embrace peace, ahead of the 2023 general elections.
This advice was given by Spokesman of the religious body, Christ Shepherd, Edet Archibong, on Thursday in Akure.
Archibong, who said that the main message of the BCS Leader, Olumba Olumba Obu, centred on peace, noted that financial, political, social and economic prosperity could only thrive in an atmosphere of peace.
He also said that the act of gathering treasures and wealth by politicians was part of the factors responsible for the current situation in the country.
Archibong urged politicians to emulate the humility and simplicity of BCS leader who, he said, had decided to shun worldly treasures and wealth.
“The present situation in the country is as a result of chasing treasures and wealth, particularly by politicians. They should, therefore, shun the act and emulate BCS leader whose humility and simplicity are legendary.
“Financial, political, social and economic prosperity thrives in a peaceful atmosphere. Politicians should shun all forms of violence and embrace peace, which is the message that Obu preaches worldwide.
“He (Obu) wears no shoe or adornment, such as wristwatches, necklaces and rings. He does not own any car; his official dress is red garment and he is selfless and kind,” he said.
Archibong dispels the negative insinuations and beliefs of some people about the religious group, saying that its teachings were strictly on repentance, righteousness and peace to the world.
He said that as part of its efforts at preaching peace across the nation, BCS had, since Feb. 28, begun a week-long peace possession, tagged: “BCS Universal Peace March” in Akure, Ondo State capital, which would end on March 6.
According to Archibong, the peace march, with the theme: “Magnifying the Giver of Perfect Peace” is a spiritual exercise of solemn procession, with prayers and songs, on the streets of Akure.
The exercise, he said, was aimed at beseeching the Holy Spirit to fill the city with peace. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
