The Senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Sen. Nicholas Tofowomo, has trained no fewer than 200 youths in his senatorial district on Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Tofowomo also shared N2 million cash and 200 laptops, valued at N9 million among the beneficiaries on Friday in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 200 HP, Windows 8, with 1 TB hard drive, 4 GB laptops, valued at N350,000, with N10,000 cash, were distributed to each of the beneficiaries.
The senator said that the beneficiaries were selected from Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo and Okitipupa Local Government Areas for a two-day training, which began on Thursday.
He urged the youth to be responsible and contribute their own quotas to nation building.
The PDP stalwart said that the training and empowerment were aimed at gearing up the youth to start legitimate small scale businesses and also keep proper records of events around the globe to enrich their knowledge.
“The rationale behind this training is to equip the knowledge of our youths on happenings in the country and the world generally, and to also assist them in starting legitimate small scale businesses.
“I urge the youth to be up and doing in order to contribute their own quota to nation building,” Tofowomo said.
He also urged the Federal Government to continue to address the security challenges currently facing the country in order to boost economic activities and afford citizens the opportunity to enjoy dividends of democracy.
Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said that they had learnt a lot from the training, pledging that they would channel the knowledge to better their lives.
Miss Roseline Akingboju, a beneficiary, said she would forever be grateful to the senator for equipping the senator for equipping her with ICT knowledge, assuring that the laptop given to her would be put to judicious use.
Mr Moses Akinola, another beneficiary, said that the training was an eye-opener to so many things on ICT, saying that other politicians and political office holders should emulate the senator.
NAN reports that the training was held, in conjunction with Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs.
NAN also reports that Tofowomo had recently distributed no fewer than 200 motorcycles to farmers, while he also constructed solar-powered boreholes and street lights across his constituency. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
