The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Friday urged motorists to ensure that they put roadworthy vehicles whose head lamps, trafficators, rear lights, wipers and mirrors were working perfectly on the highways during the harmattan season.
Mr Sikiru Alonge, the FRSC Unit Commander in Ore, gave the advice while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ore, Ondo State.
He said driving during the harmattan was like driving under emergency because of the early morning fog which used to result in unclear vision.
Alonge also said that vehicles plying the expressway must maintain normal speed limits in order to avert road crashes because of unclear vision which might affect drivers’ visibility.
According to him, we are in the time of harmattan now and the foggy weather affects visibilities of drivers to see their front and their rear clearly.
“We termed harmattan driving “Hazard Driving”, when drivers must ensure they put on their head lamps, trafficators and rear lights for them to see ongoing and oncoming vehicles and other impediments too.
“Drivers must also ensure the wipers of their vehicles are functional to clear the windscreens for proper visibility as well as the inner and side mirrors for rear visibility.
“Drivers must also make sure they maintain normal speed limit in order to avert road crashes during the harmattan season,” Alonge said.
Whlle felicitating Christians as the Yuletide approaches, he also advised motorists to obey all traffic rules and regulations to be alive for their loved ones and families this Yuletide and beyond.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
