Mr Omoniyi Adesokan, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State chapter has said that the ongoing renovation of the burnt council secretariat will be completed before the end of the year.
Adesokan, made this assertion on Tuesday, in Okitipupa while taking journalists on facility tour of the ongoing renovation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that suspected hoodlums on Oct. 22, 2020 hijacked the protest against Police brutality (EndSARS), burnt the council secretariat, the Police station and other government properties in the town.
The Okitipupa council secretariat is now wearing a new look as renovation work had reached 75 per cent completion.
NAN further reports that the chairman said the NULGE office complex had been fully renovated with new roofs, ceilings, doors and paintings while the administrative complex which had been roofed, ceilings still needed plastering, electricity fittings and tiles.
Adesokan noted there was need for more funds for the remaining buildings to be completed and for staff to fully resume work.
“As you can see, the administrative block have been roofed with iron sheets, ceiling and fixed doors but it still needs plastering, electricity fittings, floor tiles and toilets.
“We still need more funds for the remaining building to be completed and commissioned in December this year.
“We thank all well meaning Ikale indigenes who have supported this project but we are still appealing to indigenes, home and abroad to support us financially for the completion of this project,” Adesokan said.
NULGE began the renovation of the secretariat in March following the staff contributions from all the 18 council areas from their salaries for the project.
Gen. Olu Bajowa, (Rtd.) Chief Jimoh Ibrahim, a business mogul and other well meaning Ikale indigenes also donated to the renovation of the council secretariat. (NAN)
